QUALITY CONTROL FOR VARIOUS CONSTRUCTION WORKS
Need for Quality Control
The need for quality control on construction of Roads,
Buildings and other works has been increased considerably
in recent times due to the level of service expected
from these works. Improved level of service of any structure
will result in considerable savings in operating cost
and favorable user reaction and public opinion.
It is common knowledge that quality control, besides
leading in constructions of improved quality and uniformity
and ensuing a more economical utilization of materials,
also affords a significant reduction in user costs.
Cost of Quality Control
The extra cost of exercising quality control being
only a fraction of the resulting benefits, is a highly
economical proposition, in as much as on an average
project it is estimated that the cost of exercising
quality control would be just 1 ½ to 2 percent
of the construction cost. On the other hand, the direct
and indirect economic return from quality control
would be of the order of 5 to 10 percent of the total
construction cost and even more (IRCSPM).
